AUDIT INFORMATION
Audit Overview
IRTE Workshop Accreditation is an independent assessment of commercial vehicle workshop procedures, facilities and working practices, carried out by an approved SOE auditor.
The accreditation demonstrates that a workshop operates in line with recognised industry best practice, maintenance standards and professional requirements, giving operators confidence in the quality and standards of its maintenance operations.
Audit Process
The audit process reviews several areas including:

Workshop premises and general housekeeping

Equipment, tools and maintenance facilities

Staff competence, qualifications and technical training

Management systems and operational procedures

Documentation and record keeping

Quality assurance processes
-
Health and safety compliance and overall presentation
Audit Assessment
As part of the assessment, the auditor will typically review supporting evidence, including:

Maintenance procedures and inspection documentation

Staff training records and relevant qualifications

Calibration and equipment service records
-
Risk assessments and health & safety documentation
-
Quality control processes and workshop records
-
Vehicle maintenance and defect reporting systems
Following submission of the Applicant Agreement, the application will be passed to the auditor, who will contact you directly to arrange the audit visit(s) and discuss the process further.
Accreditation
Accreditation is valid for three years, after which a renewal audit is required to maintain accredited status. Accredited workshops are also listed on the IRTE Workshop Accreditation Register, demonstrating their commitment to high standards of maintenance and service delivery.
The register provides visibility of accredited workshops and includes details such as location, services offered, facilities, vehicle test pass rates, RIDDOR statistics and HSE notices, where applicable.
Audit Cost
Band A (5 workshops or fewer): £875 + VAT per audit
Band B (6–30 workshops): £835 + VAT per audit
Band C (31 workshops or more): £795 + VAT per audit
